He was born on 8th Dec 1935 in Phagwara, Punjab to a Jat (Sikh) father Kewal Kishen Singh Deol and Sikh mother Satwant Kaur.

Dharmendra is an Indian film actor, producer and politician. In 1997, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi cinema.

Hema Malini and Dharmendra, fell in love with each other in the year 1970, on the sets of Tum Haseen Main Jawan.

Dharmendra married twice. His second marriage was to the Bollywood actress Hema Malini on 2 May 1980 

Dharmendra served as a Member of the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) from Bharatiya Janata Party representing Bikaner in Rajasthan from 2004 to 2009

He received the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian honour, from the Government of India in 2012. Dharmendra has worked in over 300 films in a career spanning over six decades.

From his first marriage, he has two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, and two daughters, Vijayta Deol Gill and Ajeeta Deol. He has 4 grand sons named Karan, Rajvir, Aryaman, and Dharam.
