Devara Movie Review: NTR’s Power-Packed Performance

Devara is a movie that takes you into the world of pirates, betrayal, and redemption, starring the ever-powerful NTR as Devara. He, along with his friends Bhaira (Saif Ali Khan) and others from four villages, rob ships to make a living. But after a life-changing event, Devara realizes he’s been doing wrong and decides to stop his criminal ways. However, this doesn’t sit well with his friends, who turn against him. Now, Devara must fight to end these illegal activities while dealing with his enemies.

Performances: NTR Steals the Show

NTR, as always, delivers a strong and intense performance. His acting, especially in the action scenes, carries much of the movie. Though the story may falter, NTR does his best to keep things engaging.

Devara Movie review

Janhvi Kapoor, in her limited role, doesn’t get much to do except for the song “Chuttamalle,” which adds a bit of charm. Saif Ali Khan plays a typical villain, but his role doesn’t stand out. He comes across as a standard bad guy without any memorable moments. Other actors, like Shine Tom Chacko and Srikanth, have smaller roles that don’t leave much of an impact.

Music and Action: Saving Graces

Anirudh’s background music really helps elevate the movie. The Fear Song and other background tracks bring excitement and intensity to key moments. The music is one of the film’s highlights, especially in the action sequences, where it adds a sense of urgency and drama.

The action scenes, especially the interval fight, are well-shot. NTR’s use of weapons is impressive and the choreography is spot-on. The design of the weapons and how NTR handles them make these scenes some of the best in the movie.

What Works and What Doesn’t

What’s Good:

  • NTR’s performance as Devara is top-notch.
  • Anirudh’s background music is powerful.
  • The interval action sequence is a highlight.
  • The Fear Song creates some of the film’s most exciting moments.

What’s Lacking:

  • The story feels predictable and follows a familiar formula.
  • There are dragged-out scenes that slow the movie down.
  • Many characters, including Saif Ali Khan’s villain, feel underdeveloped.

Final Thoughts

Director Koratala Siva weaves the story of Devara around the concept of “fear.” However, the execution feels too typical, relying on a standard commercial formula. The plot starts off interesting but soon becomes predictable. Even with a powerhouse actor like NTR, the movie lacks the intense or thrilling moments you’d expect.

The second half slows down, and Janhvi Kapoor’s character doesn’t get much screen time, despite the initial hype. Saif Ali Khan’s villain character lacks the punch it needs, and the movie misses some high-stakes moments that could have made it more exciting.

While Devara isn’t a bad movie, it doesn’t live up to its full potential. NTR’s performance and Anirudh’s music help keep it afloat, but the predictable plot and weak supporting characters hold it back. Hopefully, Part 2 will pick up the pace and deliver more excitement.
